Summary:
Marshal Charles Baker was shot and killed when he and his partner, Officer Ross McCammon, stopped a man who was suspected of robbing a bar.
When they attempted to detain the man a struggle ensued. The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Marshal Baker in the chest at point blank range; he then shot at Officer McCammon but instead hit the patrol car. He shot Marshal Baker once more in the thigh before he exchanged gunfire with Officer McCammon; the suspect was hit in the thigh before fleeing the scene.
The suspect was apprehended four days later in Kentucky with the untreated bullet wound and was executed for the crime in 1986.
