Bio: Frank was born in Akron, Ohio and graduated from St. Martha's Grade School and St. Vincent High School in 1957, where he was an all-star athlete. He continued his football career at Kent State University and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Frank is included in St. Vincent Athletic Hall of Fame and in November of 2006 Kent State University established a scholarship fund in honor of Frank and dedicated their football season to him.
In recognition of his duty to the citizens of Akron, the Frank Mancini award was established and is presented yearly to a citizen of Akron who demonstrated heroism. |

Summary: |
Police Officer Frank Mancini succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained 46 years earlier as he and two other officers attempted to arrest robbery suspects.
Officer Mancini, Officer Eugene Hooper and Reserve Officer Harold Wintrow pulled over a couple of robbery suspects. A scuffle followed and one suspect, Charles Jennings grabbed Mancini's gun and shot all three officers.
Officer Hooper died at the scene. Wintrow and Mancini, who was 25 at the time, were left paralyzed.

Both suspects were captured at their apartment four hours later.
Charles Jennings, who admitted to the robbery and shooting, was convicted of first degree murder and attempted murder and sentenced to two life terms in prison. He was denied parole in 2010. His next parole hearing is in 2014.
He is now 72 and remains incarcerated at the Allen Correctional Institute.

His accomplice, Terrance Landry Jr., who testified against Jennings at trial, was convicted of second degree murder. He was paroled in 1977. |
