Summary:
Jail Guard Canning was beaten and strangled to death by two inmates attempting to escape. Canning was on duty in the hospital ward. A new guard who was supposed to make rounds checking the jail forgot to check this ward, making it easier for the inmates who beat and strangled Canning to death, to escape. This led to a two hundred police officer hunt for the suspects who were found shortly after and charged with manslaughter.Jail Guard Canning had 3 months service at the time of his death.
