Bio: James Irwin Brockmeyer was born on April 30, 1994 to Dixie and Don Brockmeyer. He attended St. John's Lutheran for Kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated in 2008 and he graduated from Chester High School in 2012.

James participated in basketball, baseball and track and field. He was on the first St. John's basketball team to win the regional tournament. He was involved in National Honor Society while in school and he participated in basketball, football, baseball and track while in high school. At 16 years old, James was part of the first Chester Fire Department Explorers and was the first Explorer designated Captain.

James attended the Southwest Illinois College Fire Science academy and became a full-time volunteer. He trained with the police academy and graduated in April of this year. James' work experiences included Derek's Lawn Service, Southern Illinois Transfer, Chester Fire Department, City of Chester Gas Department and the Chester Police Department.

James' hobbies included deer and duck hunting, fishing and being outdoors in general. He coached the Chester High School bass fishing team for one season and he has participated in many fishing tournaments. His biggest tournament win was with his dad, Don, as his partner. James' most memorable hunt was with his girlfriend, Lauren, when she harvested her first deer with a bow.

James Brockmeyer was the friend to everyone who never said no and he loved spending time with his girlfriend and their two dogs, Nina and Remi.

arrested in the St. Louis area Tuesday

  
Location:   Chester,   Randolph County, IL   USA   Fri. Oct. 28, 2016
Summary: Police Officer James Brockmeyer was killed in a vehicle crash while pursuing a vehicle on Palestine Road at approximately 10:00 pm.

His patrol car left the roadway and overturned just south of Union School Road in Randolph County. He became trapped in the wreckage as a result of the crash.

The vehicle he was pursuing continued to flee and its driver remains at large.

Disposition: Subject was later arrested in St. Louis, Missouri, and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer. Charges were upgraded later.
